Dr. Keith Hanlon has presented lectures, masterclasses and performance throughout Europe and the United States.
He has ecorded with The Keystone Wind Ensemble on the Klavier and Citadel labels, he has also performed with the Richmond Symphony, Richmond Philharmonic, Allegany Symphony, Commonwealth Winds, Maryland Winds, Mountainside Baroque, and has served as in the United States Army as a flute and piccolo player. He is currently the principal flute for the Ottumwa Symphony and flutist for the Derecho Wind Quintet.
His teaching experience includes public school band and chorus as well as faculty appointments at Virginia Commonwealth University, Frostburg State University, Fairmont State University, and John Tyler Community College. He has taught courses is applied flute, music theory and aural skills, science in music, music history and appreciation, and voice. He currently maintains an active teaching studio in Iowa City, Iowa and works as a professional flute and piccolo technician at Flute Authority in Coralville, IA.
Dr. Hanlon earned his doctorate in flute performance from West Virginia University (2017) his M.M. from Virginia Commonwealth University (2005) and his B.A. from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (1998). Dr. Hanlon is an active member of Delta Omicron a professional international music fraternity.
Dr. Hanlon owes much of his success in music to his former teachers: Carl Adams, Francile Bilyeu, Nina Assimakopoulos, Jennifer Lawson, Barbara Hois, Lynette Hess-Smith, Patricia Bickle-Brennan, and Joey Payton. He has performed in masterclasses for Stephen Preston, Christopher Chaffee, Alison Brown Sincof, Michael Parloff, Charles Brinks, Marianne Gedigian, Roger Martin, and Donna Wissinger.
