Rose Bishop is an active flute soloist, orchestral musician, and teacher based in Iowa.
She serves as Principal Flute of the Southeast Iowa Symphony, Second Flute and Piccolo of the Ottumwa and Quincy Symphonies, and Flutist of the Durward Ensemble and Ceres Flute Quartet. She has been a featured soloist with the Southeast Iowa Symphony, the Coe College Band, Kansas Wesleyan University, Culver-Stockton College and Monmouth College Wind Ensembles, and the Burlington and Washington Municipal Bands. She has also performed in the Battle Creek Symphony, Orchestra Iowa, and several others.
As a soloist, Rose is the 2020-21 Artist in Residence for the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra and will be giving the world premiere of Linda Robbins Coleman's new concerto, Diversions for alto flute and piccolo, which was commissioned for her by the orchestra.
Equally committed to music education, Rose is the Instructor of Flute at Coe College, Cornell College, Kirkwood Community College, and Mount Mercy University. Additionally, she provides private instruction to over 30 students and has given master classes at Iowa State University, Kansas Wesleyan University, Drake University, Central College, Graceland University, and Grand View University, and has been a guest artist at the Iowa Flute Festival, the Wisconsin Flute Festival, the Central Iowa Flute Workshop, the Nauvoo Flute Day, and the Flute Society of St. Louis Flute Fair.
She is the founder of the Eastern Iowa Flute Workshop, the Cornell College Flute and Clarinet Summer Camp, and co-created the Iowa City Flute Choir. She has been published in the Flute Talk Magazine and the Flute Examiner Magazine.
Rose holds a Masters of Music degree from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Music degree from Georgia State University.
